For pet parents across the nation, selecting the ideal name for our dogs can be a tough decision.
Reflecting a blend of personality, uniqueness, and personal touch, the process can be both exhilarating and challenging.
Despite this, some names happen to be more common than others, according to Petsure, whose research has uncovered the most popular dog names of 2024.
A study by the pet insurance experts observed eight dog breeds across the UK and their allocated names, including: cockapoos, Jack Russells, cocker spaniels, staffies, Labrador retrievers, German Shepherds and Golden retrievers.
Emerging as the reigning monarch of dog names is Luna, found to be the most popular specifically among cocker spaniels, German Shepherds and staffies.

For cockapoos, Teddy is crowned the top choice, most likely due to their teddy-like appearance, followed by Bella and Luna.
Among Jack Russells, pet parents are fond of the name Bella, along with flower-based names like Rosie and Daisy.
Meanwhile, ethereal-sounding names like Luna and Willow made it into the top ten for cocker spaniels.
Known for their unwavering loyalty and high-spirited demeanour, Labradors are commonly assigned the name Buddy.
For German Shepherds, recognised for their strong and agile build and high intelligence, mythological names such as Loki and Zeus are commonly assigned.
Parents of Golden retrievers also prefer choosing nature-inspired names for their pooches, with Luna, Daisy, Willow, and Poppy being popular picks.

Lastly, for Staffordshire terriers, it's a fun pick and mix in the top ten names, from the modern-sounding Blue to more classic choices like Reggie.
Petsure's Content Manager Allie has also offered some tips for new pet parents on how to name their new four-legged friends.
She said: 'Giving your pet a short name with no more than two syllables could help with recall. A simple and concise name may also prevent any confusion with other words and phrases.
'Your pet is an individual, so taking the time to learn their personality can help to guide your name choice. Or you perhaps may want to pick a name based on a unique physical feature, such as unusual fur markings.'
Advising to give the name allocation a test run, Allie added: 'Once you think you've settled on a name, give yourself time to try it out. Call your pet by that name for a few days and see how it feels.
'Pay attention to how it sounds when you say it aloud and how your pet responds. This trial can help check if the chosen name feels just right for both you and your pet.'
In 2023, Charles, Barbie and Taylor were among the most popular dog names, according to a report by dog-walking company Rover.
